A web page or webpage is used as a site for information that is easily
accessible on the internet. It is often in HTML or XHTML format and is easily
connected to other web sites through what is known as hyperlinks. These refer
to the text on a computer screen that once clicked, will take a user to another
site.
They can often be taken from a local computer or a remote web server or
what is known as a computer program that accepts http from clients. A
computer program that is responsible for accepting
HTTP requests from clients, which are known as
Web
browsers, and serving them
HTTP responses along with optional data contents,
which usually are Web pages such as
HTML documents and linked objects (images, etc.). A
computer that runs a computer program which
provides the functionality described in the first sense of the term.
Web pages include layout, typography, and specific colour schemes. They
include links to other sites and ads of various products that are linked the
site for customers to view. Often downloads, games, and other media will be on a website as well,
often in the form of hyperlinks. These are things that will take a person to a
video or a game with just the click of a button.
Many sites are run by web browsers like Mozilla Forefox, Internet Explorer,
and Yahoo! They can also be based on text like Lynx. Those who have visual
impairment can choose screen readers to read the text or can have voice
browsers.
Web pages are often designated with URL or HTML. What they end with (suffix) is
often contingent on what they are affiliated with. .com means communication.
.org means organization. .gov means it is a web site affiliated with the U.S.
government and .biz means it deals with business.
They are usually created with a WYSIWIG text editor which is specialized software (eg Dreamweaver, FrontPAge, CoffeCuip etc). An FTP
client is needed to upload the webpage to the website. They can be made for personal reasons or for business reasons. They are often published at various free sites like Yahoo, Tripod,
Angelfire, and Geocities. There are also paid hosting sites available like
Spaceacre. Web pages can also be built at places like Wiki, CMS, WordPress, and
Wikipedia.
Web sites often need more space than the screen resolution may allow. Generally speaking this is considered to be poor web design. Many browsers
allow for scrollbars so that users can see all the content.
To save a web page, the text can be rendered without images. The hyperlinks are
often shown in plain text, but not highlighted. If this happens, once one has saved the HTML file, the
structure will be preserved, but the links will not be available. Saving the HTML
and the the related links will preserve the hyperlinks. Another way to save it
is to save the entire page and all images and everything will be saved with it.
